Interesting article on Obesity

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35315651/ns ... n//from/ET

I just read this article on msnbc.com and emailed it to myself so I can print it out at home. It has a lot of interesting information on the chemicals in our foods that can cause weight gain, and prevent weight loss even when you're being "good". A lot of the information in the article about phytoestrogens, pthalates, BPAs, organophosphate pesticides and growth hormones is scary stuff I already know, but this article really brings home how much we damage our bodies by the addition of all the freaky chemicals in our world. Hell, apples and strawberries made the top ten list of "Bad" fruit when talking pesticides.... APPLES and STRAWBERRIES for cryin' out loud :o !!! I eat a lot of fruit because it's good for me but to find out that the chemicals sprayed onto these (that doesn't wash off) can lead to weight gain... SHIT
I have been griping for years how it seems like it doesn't really matter if I diet or exercise, my weight stays the same. This may be part of the problem. So I am going to increase my efforts to go organic... I already limit my use of plastics (BPAs) and don't use teflon (pthalates) and try to avoid meats that are high in growth hormones. But seriously, is it safe to eat anything anymore :( ?

PS York Peppermint Patties are still safe though.... *whew* ;)

Thats why I prefer organic. The farmers markets are opening up now... and they accept food stamps. Organic is THE only way to go. No chemicals just the nutrition!

I would buy only organic if I could afford to, unfortunately it is expensive. I need five acres and a cow.

Now there is a good idea, Tigerlily! :D

I must admit that the times when I have lost weight...more than a few pounds...it has just come off. Like some mental shift takes place and then it comes off. I know the mental shift effects what I do...but those times I haven't been counting calories and following some stupid program.

I know you need to make changes to calories and increase activity...but there are times it has happend relatively easy. Now if I just understood the mental shift better and could do it at will. Hmmm....

And yes, there is so much crap in our "food". It's beyond amazing. In a bad way.

That's why I mentioned the food stamps.

We get roughly 350 a month in foodstamps... cuz we soooo broke.

And this is literally enough to buy decent food with. We purchase as local as we can find and I keep it healthy. once our favorite farmers market in beaverton kicks in we'll buy the organic straight from the farm food again. Farmers markets take food stamps. So does costco now. with over 50% of americans on foodstamps I'd say more and more stores are accepting them. It's no longer a stigma... the whole damn country is broke.

So... again try some organic. If you ain't broke enough to get food stamps.... then I don't know what to say.
Congrats?!??

I took a pay cut and lost hours to the point that I had to claim 10 deductions on my W2 because I can't afford taxes and still pay my bills... and I live on the cheap, my grocery budget is about $50 a week. But I still make too much $$ to get foodstamps. Fortunately, I saw this economic clusterfuck coming about 4 years ago and started paying off everything I could. I guess I'm lucky...? :?

I just got some possible good news. I got a hit on a resume I flew out today. I may have an interview scheduled tomorrow. Thier hiring manager responded quickly today, So I should get a call or an email when he gets into the office tomorrow.
I've been without work for a year now.

We paid off a years worth of a few bills when hubby got his back pay from the VA. The economy was why we did it. We knew how hard it'd be for me to get back the status having a J.O.B. Currently we live on his VA monthly stipend... it would be impossible to have any housing and live if we hadn't paid things off like we did. We have until August to make enough money to afford monthly rent.

wish me luck.

Kara

I just got a job - start training in a couple of weeks - not great but it I need the benefits. Then yesterday I called in for another one it may only last for 2 months but I am going to try and juggle two full time jobs and one part time to get caught up a bit.

Court case drags on........
My mom has been in the hospital in ICU for over a week now.
And although there is now a court order for Child Support - no payments and no enforcing of it for at least another month.

But the sun is shining - it is my kid's b-day and if I can eat semi healthy through all of this stuff I am doing well.
Maybe organic when I get caught up.

Miss you ladies - the place I am working is still hiring if anyone wants a job.
